There are many (e-)books written about it, but what is not written, is also not commercialized, and even better:
intuition.
Remember the three apes: to hear, to see and to keep it quiet.

Home-savings
Do it yourself:! Watch the "How to do"- movies and search the Internet. Of course, not every activity is @ measure, so soicialize with your friends who has the same problems (before you).
If you live in Belgium, it's easy to ride elsewhere and do some shop-shavings in the borders. Almost everything (but the gasoline * not in Luxembourg*- and house-prices) is cheaper there.
What the government says, you'll listen and follow. What the government says about premiums and subsidiaries, you, certainly as private customer, don't look for this money-opportunity, because information
about your private life will return as a tax sooner or later for you.
Of course, taxes are usefull to re-invest in other projects, but it has to be ready for the people who really need it and not for showing-offs.
Read some reactions and opinions from other users in the Internet, than only looking at the commercialized reviews of consumer products and even everydays news. You'll be thankfull about it!

Happy environment
If you want to stimulate your region/city, then this must happen to be in two directions, and the society is less
soured and happier to welcome you too!
Get into an association. You do know your neighbours and habitants of your city better and together, you'll have a "Yes, we can" -feeling. Begin with your children and they will know the importance of socializing. instead of gaming at home.
Don't neglect elderly people: they have much to tell and they need a supporting audience. Maybe your time is precious, but what about their time? And what if you'll be like their age? And try to live in  their time-spirit, because mentality-differences are the biggest gaps to tide over between generations!
Arguments that not easy are to invalidate, you don't force to others, because you can't dispute with them what they don't know.
In a relation, you accept the other what (s)he is and not to try getting a copy of yourself. Sometimes you'll have to admit.  

Maybe all this (blog) sounds pedantic, the title of this blog isn't, and that is what people want, isn't it?
