I Claudius

This week we've bought the Mini Series of Roman Empire from Dutch Filmworks Distribution.
It's because the part of I Claudius, it is an interesting investment to see a qualitative BBC-production that
has not lost his charm since its 36 years of existence.
Because we were in the Latin grade in the school years, Roman and Greek stories and mythologies have been fascinated since long..
Why "I, Claudius", a 1976 BBC mini serial has kept a remarkable presence to me?
Because of the realistic story behind his person. Not because of the violently action scenes that we've see in recent film-adaptation of Spartacus, Titans, Rome and other Percy's (there are only a few suggestives, but sensational at time) but the deep-focused so called inside stories, witnessed and experienced by the main person itself.
In the beginning it has the looks of a soap opera, with inside shots and overexposure. But the more the story goes on, the more fascination you feel to become one of the persons inside the turning point of Roman Empire under influence of  Caesar Claudius' time.  With his many intrigues, betrayals, abuse of power, fears, falseness..., filmed in the '70s style and because of good, almost theatrical acting and Claudius himself (a good fool with intelligence), it's no wonder that I Claudius is untill now a favorite Roman Empire Serial all time.
Many of these British actors are becoming very popular since then, like Derek Jakobi (Twin Peaks), John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, Sliders), John Hurt (Alien, V for Vendetta), Patrick Stewart (Star Trek TNG)....
So, sit back and watch I Claudius, the most under-appreciated Caesar of Julio-Claudian era...
