Recently, de Standaard Newspaper has published an article about the regretting number of inventions, made by the Belgians. And 5 years ago, Het Nieuwsblad - by the way, a sisterpaper of the same Group - had written a lyrical report about how inventive Belgians are...
You see that newspapers are inventing the news contradictorily.
Belgians are indeed famous inventors of the saxophone, bakelite, lace, soap, zinc, dynamo...
And now, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Belgians are representing only 0,4 % of the given patents. This number must be relativated of course.
Many Belgian inventors are working for a Multinational and since this cooperation is active in the whole world, the invention can be requested in another country (by a Belgian inventor). The USA, Japan and Germany have the largest inventor-families, because of the biggest amount of Multinational Companies. And don't forget that a patent is only meaning to protect products and not theories of all kind
