By speaking of travels to open your mind about cultures, we don't need to say that a regular tourist is not capable to taste real culture of their beloved destination. Because of the lack of time and the meaning of 'holiday' after a heavy working period, they want to consume either a quiet holiday on one place or visit several places in an arranged excursion. How do you suppose to know the country(s)? First at all you have to communicate with the local residents preferable in their own language. Then a real taste of the country will be fine, by trying the local kitchen, rather than to go dining in the hotel. Once they felt accepted by your willingness to learn about their culture, they introduce you in the typical tradition of their hometown/land. With a little patience and never ending diligence, a new (longtime) friendship with all his advantages is born...
It takes time of course. So try to work abroad in your favourite country and built up your life experience. No need to regret this!
