The problem of Belgium is since his birth:
It's an artificial Buffer against France in the 19th century, created by the Kingdom of the Netherlands. But because of social-religious differences Belgium was born.
Originally, everybody was satisfied, because it was an unique country with really different cultures in which they were distinguished as from North Netherland as from the Southern people of France. "Unity gives strenght (Label)" is nothing but our national slogan.
But as time flies, more and more differences in culture seems to be unliable and that was a painfull evident after the both World Wars.
In the symbolic year 1968, the first national (big) political catholic party is divided in a Flemish and a Wallonian french department. Others would follow.
After several State Reformations, the federal states are a fact and normally you should say that everybody is happy.

But no!

Like in real life, money and "real estate" power (more ground) comes to the order.

Because Flanders is the economically booming part of Belgium with practically no debts in view, the Belgian Constitution has forced Flanders years ago to a financial solidarity with his needy "brother/husband/whatsoever" Wallonia. And Brussels should be a part from Flanders because of the geography and the etymology "Broekzele" of this European Capital.
Of course the original French-speaking elite (practically the entire southern side of Belgium) are against it. And the real Belgians, where are they? In Brussels?!

One thing is sure: Flanders is more powerfull with Brussels together and that make the Flemish population sounds like "Holle vaten klinken het hardst"- Those who know less, they are yelling the most.

Back to Bart de Wever:
My opinion is that he, qualified in history, is telling what most of the Flemish are 'yelling' and he is certainly an smart person, but to tell you the truth, he is too correct in his rethorics (even in French) and excusing behaviour, to let him be a competent politician. Should he not had formed a team with the 'big' CD&V (Catholic party), he was snowhere...
That means that the National Flemish Alliance (N-VA) from De Wever has to cooperate with a 'peaceful' big party... That means that Flanders has to cooperate with other 'regions' , like Brussels, Wallonia and Luxemburg, will it keeps his existence.
And what is Belgium actually?!

He is sounding like "We want Brussels, because it is a part from us, Flemish people".
Correct.
Who made Brussels in the first place till what it is? The french-speaking elite and namely our first kings.
Correct.
So.
It's like a second wife of the husband who wants his heritage.
Problem is, there is no second wife! Brussels is like a child of these two federal states!
So.
State Reformations are a must, but must not separate Belgium.
How?
You have to see and feel other countries outside Europe, Belgian politicians! And this means not for holiday, but for experiences of social-political reasons and to compare with your tiny little discussions and tendencies to power up only yourself and able to destroy an unique country!

Learn, feed and feel your languages! And so do you?!
