Play with them, make laughs together, tell stories, do activities instead to let them alone.
Yes... Most of the parents let these children alone, because these parents are doing something be satisfying their own, like shopping, working, gambling, loving, ... They please themselves instead of pleasing their children, and that's not a good sign.
The habitual excuse of having no time is not a reason at all, because they have time! But for themselves.
Why taking children, for heaven's sake?

If you want these cute infants laugh, then exaggerate stories, voices, overacting things, do sketches, then they will forget these negative vibes and they will cooperate with interacting on the same way as you do, with happiness and love. Most of all positive learning-experiences!
